12-8-18 Music In Maryland Messiah and Klezmer Show!

By Jonathan Palevsky | Posted in Host Blogs, Music In Maryland | 2 Comments

In one of the strangest and best juxtapositions ever two of my favorite things!  In the first hour we have part 1 of Handel’s Messiah with Concert Artists, The Baltimore Symphony and Edward Polochick conducting.  We tacked on the Hallelujah chorus from part 2 on for good measure.  Messiah is being performed live at the Meyerhoff this weekend tonight at 8 and Sunday at 3!  In the second hour we have our annual Klezmer Show!  Enjoy!

Does Klezmer have anything to do with Hanukkah, or is it just tribal? I have a listener who wants me to play klezmer for Hanukkah. Is that a thing? Plus, although this listener disagrees with my estimation, it is not really jazz, so I’m passing. Plus, Hanukah is over. So I’m safe for now. Maybe next year, if it’s a thing. maybe KBAQ can do it.

I heard music on 12/8 between 8:30 and 9 PM and I’d like to track it down. It was four Jewish pieces. Maybe some were Chanukah related, I can’t quite recall. Can you please provide the details of what was played and who wrote the pieces during that timeframe. Thanks very much.
