By Jonathan Palevsky | Posted in Host Blogs, Music In Maryland | Comments Off on 3-18-17 Music In Maryland Bach Musical Marathon!

This week we are playing some recordings from the St. Davids Episcopal Church in Baltimore’s Bach Marathon.  The marathon takes place tomorrow at St. David’s and begins at 2 pm.  It’s free and open to the public and contains music by J.S. Bach for all manner of forces and genres.  I had the pleasure of talking to Doug Buchanan about the Marathon earlier in the week.

Meanwhile here is what we played on tonight’s show!

Bach: French Suite No.  4  in E-flat, BWV 815  (2016 marathon)

Theodore Davis, Harpsichord.

Bach: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, BWV 131 (2016 marathon).  Daryl Yoder and Ben Hawker, Soloists

The Choir of St. David’s, Douglas Buchanan, conductor

Bach: Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor, BWV 542 (2016 marathon).  William Wisnom, organ.

Bach: Jesu, meine Freude, BWV 227 (2015 marathon)

Kerry Holahan, Lisa Perry, and Kelly Buchanan, soloists (mvmt IV)

Lisa Perry, Ben Hawker, and Joshua Zanze, soloists (mvmt VIII)

Kerry Holahan, Lisa Perry, and Stephen Crawford, soloists (mvmt IX)

The Choir of St. David’s, Douglas Buchanan, conductor

Bach: Prelude and Fugue in G Major, BWV 541 (2016 marathon)   Mary Hamlin-Spencer, Organ.

To fill we used an ancient BSO recording with Leon Fleisher…fabulous!
