Joining me in the WBJC studio were Towson University Department of Theater Professor Tavia La Follette and graduating senior Gina Matucci, the director and assistant director respectively of A Monster Calls–playing on campus December 7th through 10th at 7.30pm in the Studio Theater at Towson’s Center for the Arts. Tickets and more information (including a digital playbill) available at https://tickets.tuboxoffice.com/

This fantastical-mythological-psychological play uses music, movement, puppets, and a collective imagination to tell the story of young Connor–wrestling with grief and fear as he faces his mother’s mortality–and the mysterious, magical yew tree that visits him nightly. Based on Patrick Ness’s critically acclaimed 2011 novel, inspired from an idea by Siobhan Dowd, and adapted into a 2020 Olivier Award-winning play by Sally Cookson and members of the Bristol Old Vic acting company.
