The Shroud of Turin was originally intended as nothing more than an innocuous devotional image, but it was soon misrepresented. Miracles were faked, money was made. Former Director of the Walters Art Museum and internationally known medieval scholar, Gary Vikan, investigates one of the greatest hoaxes in the history of Christian relics in his new book, The Holy Shroud: A Brilliant Hoax in the Time of the Black Death.
