The Two Women Behind The Strings
Margaux Whitney and Jasmin “Charly” Charles, the two women behind the classically trained string instrument duo Chargaux, haven’t known each other for a lifetime. The two met by chance less than four years ago when Charles, who was studying at the Berklee College of Music, was playing viola in Copley Square. Whitney, who was working a corporate job at the time, was on a lunch break when she saw her performing and suggested they jam together. Born in Detroit, Whitney started playing the violin in second grade after deciding wind instruments were not her style, and went on to study music and English at Boston College. Growing up in both Houston and Atlanta, Charles started playing the violin in elementary school after hearing her orchestra teacher play a soulful version of The Pink Panther theme song, and went on to study classical and bluegrass alongside music engineering and production. From there, the two started regularly performing on the streets together, making YouTube videos, playing gigs, and eventually forming, Chargaux. Take a listen to Chargaux’s ” The Lone Ranger” down below.
