  • Ronald Eby says:

From Ephrata, PA. Thanks for playing the Bizet Symphony No. 1 in C. Many years ago I lived in CA and listened to KKHI, San Francisco, one of the few all-classical commercial stations. One of their evening classical programs took its theme from this work. I rarely hear it now and when I do, it takes me right back to the early 60s and the Bay Area. KKHI could be heard all over northern California and up into southern Oregon and at night across much of the West. Great late night listening when you were on the road. And then suddenly they were gone about 1994. Thanks so much for jogging my memory.

One of the last commercial classical stations I know of was in Portland, OR. Their late night program used Debussy’s Petite Suite, the first movement. And that remains one of my favorite pieces. They met their demise in early 1989.
