On Sunday, October 25th, DC's Church of the Epiphany will resound with a mighty sound: the massed music of nearly 200 vocalists and instruments joined in an exploration of longing and belonging, home and exile, produced and performed by Choral Arts.
The concert, entitled "In Search of Home," was conceived and assembled by Artistic Director Marie Bucoy-Calavan to feature a broad array of time periods, musical styles and voices, creeds, and perspectives—but all of them examining the idea of "Home" in the many ways that can manifest.
From Buxtehude and Brahms to Bernstein, as well as in more contemporary pieces by Jeffrey Derus and Caroline Shaw, the concert offers a range of reflections and evocations of how ideas of exile or return, shelter and community, can be both particular and universal, as Bucoy-Calavan shared in our conversation.
