Orange Grove Dance completes their exploratory, experimental residency at The Voxel in Baltimore with performances of the world premiere of Nevermore from October 1-18.
Drawing as much on contemporary perceptions, conceptions (and possibly misconceptions), and impressions of Edgar Allan Poe—the poet, the persona, the persisting presence—as on the original literary source material, Nevermore celebrates the full ethos and mythos of Baltimore's beloved bard of the macabre with a full sensory immersion. Transforming the space into a pool of water, diving bravely into the literal and figurative fluidity of inspiration and image, and mixing movement with technology while stripping away spoken word in favor of physical vocabulary: Orange Grove applies the full range of performance and embodiment and invites audiences into a four-dimensional exploration of the material.
Audiences can enjoy an "evocative water-drenched descent into the shadowed emotional world of Edgar Allan Poe" that will transform The Voxel space into "a shifting landscape of memory, downpours, obsession, and stark beauty…where movement, light, and madness blur the line between the living and the spectral." Ghosts of all sorts, and a full-on splash zone: Baltimore's experimental theatricality at its best.
