Clare Barron's Pulitzer Prize-nominated Dance Nation will have its Baltimore premiere at the Fells Point Corner Theatre from February 13th to March 8th, directed by Genevieve de Mahy.
The play centers on a group of adolescent competitive dancers navigating social machinations, rivalries, and the pressures of seeking a trophy at Nationals. Beyond the plot, the play explores deeper, often uncomfortable societal issues regarding the experience of young people coming of age. A unique feature of this production is its use of an intergenerational company of adult actors to portray the preteen characters, parents, and teachers, which expands the work into themes of memory, yearning, and universality.
Performances run Friday through Sunday, with a "Pay What You Can" preview on Thursday, February 12th.
