First and Franklin Presbyterian continues their Spire Series with a recital featuring Grammy-nominated soprano Laura Strickling in concert with the celebrated Neave Trio, at 7.30 pm on Friday, October 2nd.
The eclectic performance will showcase a wide array of musical outlooks and perspectives, subject matters, and styles, including:
- Jennifer Higdon: Trio, “Zesty Orange” and “Majestic Green”
- Aaron Copland: "Prelude" from Symphony
- Lori Laitman: "Daughters"
- Jennifer Higdon: "Love Sweet"

Also of note, Strickling just recently released a related album, Legends: Rebellion, that continues her longstanding collaboration with pianist Joy Schreier—part of a planned sequence of releases from Sono Luminus that not only explore the voices of women composers and subjects, but also showcase contemporary art songs and celebrate traditions of musical storytelling across many cultures and diverse perspectives.
As Strickling notes of her work, “I’ve spent most of my life perfecting the mechanics of singing, but at my heart, I’m a storyteller. In every concert, I have a front-row seat to the audience’s reaction, and my heart beats to see their eyes light up when we get to the good part. It is deeply important to me to amplify [these] voices, and to celebrate the stories of women everywhere through my programming."
