IN Series—the innovative performance group whose work invariably fuses unexpected and imaginative intersections among musical, theatrical styles, genres, modes, periods, and cultures—returns with a new season for 2026-27. This time, the company has given the title "Sic Semper Tyrannis" to their exploration of a millenium of operatic resistance and revolt, showcasing work (or new twists on old works) that in some cases feature boldly satirical portraits of the powerful and in others themselves represent the arts' ability to speak out and stand up to authority.
Included in the season is a range of work from some of the earliest Medieval fusions of text and music that would evolve into opera to 21st-century inheritors of that rich legacy. Starting it all off, from October 10th-25th, will be THE M.A.K.A.do: Make America Kingly Again!, an "Operatico-Politico-Buffo-Satirico" based on The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan with additional new text by Bari Biern.
