The Wagner Society of Washington, DC presents “Beckmesser’s Downfall: What Did He Really Say at the Song Contest?”

Sixtus Beckmesser’s entry in the song contest in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger is famously ridiculed by the onstage audience — but many listeners in the theater may not have thought about what it actually says. This discussion of the text by John Edward Niles, board member of the Wagner Society of Washington, DC, will enrich their understanding.
The event is free, but reservations are required at wagner-dc.org or (703) 370-1923. Free parking is available, or Metro to Van Ness-UDC.
