Compass Rose delivers Jane Austen for the holidays

By Gavin Witt | Posted in Interviews, Staff Blogs, WBJC Programs | Comments Off on Compass Rose delivers Jane Austen for the holidays

Joining the commemoration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, and to add spice to family holiday celebrations, Compass Rose Theater in Annapolis is producing a recent stage adaptation of a perennial favorite from the Austen oeuvre, Pride and Prejudice.

In a lean adaptation by Emma Whipday that aims to put fun and family at the forefront, performances run from November 14th through December 14th, with tickets and times and more information available at https://www.compassrosetheater.org/pride-and-prejudice

The production’s director, Compass Rose Artistic Director Madeline Austin, joined me for a wide-ranging conversation about this particular adaptation, about elements of the production–including some of the fun discoveries and unexpected resonances occasioned by double casting some of the roles–as well as about the personal connection she brings to the piece as herself one of a gaggle of sisters.

More on the production, along with insights from adapter Emma Whipday, can be found here and here
