This week Mary and I discuss a New York Times article by Eric Asimov (Above Left) published on June 19, 2019 entitled ‘It’s Time to Rethink Wine Criticism’. Using the occasion of Robert Parker’s (Above Right) retirement, Asimov discusses the role of the wine critic and how changing the way we write about wine might be helpful. This is in no way a slight to Robert Parker’s invaluable contribution to the world of wine for the last three decades plus. It is frankly inconceivable to think of wine in America without him and we are all grateful to him for his invaluable service. I wish him well in his retirement and may all of his future wine consumption be about pure unadulterated pleasure.
