08/26/17 – Marriage of Figaro – 1PM

LA Opera on air

The Marriage of Figaro by by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte

Sung in Italian. Three hours and 15 minutes, including one intermission.

Figaro_lao15The wily barber and part-time matchmaker has finally fallen in love, but–like everything else in Figaro’s life–it’s complicated. On the eve of Figaro’s marriage to Susanna, Count Almaviva’s wandering eye has landed on the lovely bride-to-be. Servant and master go head to head, and even the Countess herself gets into the action when she learns of her husband’s plans. Or is she embroiled in a liaison of her own?

From the breathless opening notes of the overture to the touching final curtain, Mozart’s comic masterpiece under the baton of James Conlon brilliantly bucks the conventions of his time to deliver an ageless message of love and forgiveness.
