MICHAEL BRITT, organist: “From Carmen to Buster Keaton!”
An “ebullient” organ recital by Baltimore AGO subdean and Brown Memorial’s new Minister of Music.
The program includes “Fantasia on Carmen,” a lively piece based on themes from Bizet’s famous opera, “Nimrod” from Elgar’s Enigma Variations, “Fantasy on Three Traditional Celtic Melodies” from Paul Halley’s Outer Hebrides, and the Baltimore premiere of David Schelat’s “Organ Sonata.”
A highlight of the concert will be a showing of Buster Keaton’s silent film classic “One Week” (1920) with Britt’s original organ accompaniment to the film.
A frequent recitalist of classical organ music who has performed at Paris’s Cathedral of Nôtre Dame, Michael Britt also is well known as a performer of theater organ music and as a silent film accompanist. He recently accompanied the original “Phantom of the Opera” at Princeton University Chapel for the fifth time.
