Libretto by Carlo Pepoli

Sung in Italian

Approximate running time 3 hrs. 20 min.

puritani_met14An exciting newcomer joins three acclaimed bel canto stars in Bellini’s final opera, a vocal showcase that features one of opera’s greatest mad scenes. Olga Peretyatko makes her highly anticipated Met debut as Elvira, the young woman driven to madness, opposite Lawrence Brownlee, Mariusz Kwiecien, and Michele Pertusi.

“A lovely woman with a beguiling stage presence, [Peretyatko] has a clear, shimmering voice with a bright but never hard-edged sound and the technique to dispatch runs and roulades with comfortable agility.”
— New York Times

Lawrence Brownlee gives a “stylish, technically accomplished performance… His sound has warmth and bloom, with a quick, ardent vibrato. He soars easily up to ringing top notes, high C’s and even higher. Mr. Brownlee’s singing is a model of bel canto style.”
— New York Times

“The bass Michele Pertusi brought vocal and dramatic dignity to the role of Elvira’s uncle.”
— New York Times
