9/6/14 Music In Maryland Show. The Aspen String Trio!

By Jonathan Palevsky | Posted in Host Blogs, Music In Maryland | No Comments

This week Music in Maryland features a broadcast of the Aspen String Trio who will be performing Beethoven’s String Trio op. 9 # 1 and Mozart’s Divertimento K. 563.  Both are fabulous pieces and recorded beautifully by AST  cellist Mike Mermagen.  The performances were recorded during the 2010 season at University of Baltimore’s Wright Theatre where the Aspen String Trio is in residence.  If you want to see them live they are performing at UB on Tuesday November 11 @ 7:30.  I will be there introducing the group and doing some commentary.  The concert is entitled Degenerate Composers and will feature works by Hans Gal, Hans Krasa and Gideon Klein.   All of these composers suffered under the Nazi regime and the government referred to their works as degenerate.  Hans Gal left Germany/Austria  and survived the war, Krasa and Klein were not so fortunate.  The Aspen String Trio is made up of Violinist David Perry, Violist Victoria Chiang and Cellist Michael Mermagen.
