Seeing Green!
Actually, we will be hearing Green on this St. Patrick’s Day Vocalise at 8:00 PM. The prolific film and television composer and conductor Philip Green moved to Ireland towards the end of his career. Falling for the people, country and music in a big
way, Green wanted to pay personal tribute to Ireland with a mass. He wrote “St. Patrick’s Mass” in the early 1970′s adding Irish folk-like sounding music, flutes and fiddles, to the standard mass setting. This is sweet, enchanting music that may have you seeing lush, green landscapes.

At ca. 6:00 PM on March 17, I heard a marvelous woman’s voice — I guess a mezzo but I may be wrong. I do not know what she was singing, it was pretty clearly something in connection with St, Patrick’s day. I would very much like who that singer was.
In Vocalise, the first piece at 8pm was:
Michael W. Balfe — I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
Conductor: Richard Bonynge
Ensemble: London Symphony Orchestra
Joan Sutherland, soprano
Not certain what the time difference is for you… at 6pm our time we weren’t playing any vocal music. If you have further questions, please let us know and we’ll get it figured out!
