How can I listen on my…

By Diana Ross | Posted in Staff Blogs | 2 Comments

Over the past few weeks, I’ve answered a few emails from listeners who are trying out various non-traditional means of listening to WBJC.  I thought some of you might find it helpful to know how they are doing it, and possibly share your own creative ways of listening!

At home, I listen on my TV via my Roku device.  The Roku is a DVP (digital Video Player) which differs slightly from Digital Video Recorder devices (DVRs) like the TiVo or Blu-Ray Players (DVD players).  While these devices all serve various purposes for viewing styles, they have one important thing in common:  they are connected to the internet.  If your device has the ability to connect and can install various apps, you can probably listen to WBJC’s stream through your TV entertainment system.

How do you know if your device can connect?  The easiest thing to check is if your device came installed with Netflix.  If so, it has internet capability.  Check your documentation for instructions on setting up your internet connection. Many of the newer devices have wireless, so if you have wi-fi set up at home you can skip the cables! Ultimately, cables versus wireless doesn’t affect audio streaming so much, but can have an impact on your video playback/quality.

Once you’re connected, you want to see if you have a radio station app called TuneIn Radio.  If you don’t, check your menus to see if you have some kind of App Market or Channel Store (the Roku has the latter).  Samsung devices have their own apps, vTuner internet radio and Viaway Internet Media are the two I found and tested.  For anyone here with Apple -branded products like Apple TV, I’m sorry to say I have zero experience to share here.  I am reading on tech forums that there is a way to access TuneIn through Couch Surfer.  Please post here to let me know what you use!

Once your app is installed, simply search for “WBJC” and you should find us easily enough!

If anyone out there has an HD receiver in their home-entertainment mix, please comment here with your set-up and recommendations!  I’d love to know how it sounds and what you’re using.
